Bethesda studio newborn photography | newborn boy with proud big brother and beautiful family

I was so excited to see this beautiful family again and meet their newest addition!  I had the pleasure of photographing big brother both for his newborn session and his first birthday cake smash, so it was so fun to see him “all grown up” and assuming his new role as a big brother.  As you can see, he has readily embraced that role, and clearly loves his little brother. . .with good reason!  Baby brother is an absolute sweetheart; he was full of smiles, and definitely appreciated all of the snuggles from his family.

Don’t you agree that you can really feel the love emanating from the photos from this session?

I adore his little smile in the image below!

Washington Capitals newborn session | Washington D.C. newborn photographer

    Washington Capitals newborn session

This adorable little guy is ready to hit the ice to follow in his daddy’s footsteps as a professional hockey player!  He is clearly already rockin’ the red, and looks just darling in a tiny hockey uniform.  (Look how little he looks in comparison to his dad’s hockey gloves!)

As a hockey mom myself (and a Caps fan, of course!), it was so much fun to create a Capitals-themed photo session for this sweetheart!  I love the opportunity to be creative, and also to incorporate personal items into newborn sessions to make them even more special.
It was such a treat to capture these images for this cutie’s mom and dad, and I couldn’t be happier for their family!

New studio location for Potomac, Maryland newborn photographer | newborn and big brother studio portraits

Hi all! Starting off with a quick update for you all. . .As many of you know, Tina Krafts Photography has been in business for approximately 9 years.  Over the course of those 9 years, I worked out of studios in various locations in Montgomery County (in the Silver Spring and Bethesda areas).  I am thrilled to share with you all, however, that I recently found a new, more permanent studio location in Potomac, Maryland.

I photographed new baby Z at just under two weeks old, and he was just perfect — such a good sleeper, just like his big brother was for his session.  He allowed us to capture lots of different poses and expressions (it is always exciting as a newborn photographer to capture both a yawn AND several smiles in the same session)!  This sweet little guy is so very loved (as you can see from the following photos), and I am so happy for  his beautiful family!

Washington, D.C. Bethesda, Maryland newborn photographer earns Bronze medal at the Professional Photographer of America’s 2021 International Photographic Competition

Washington, D.C. Bethesda, Maryland newborn photographer earns Bronze medal at the Professional Photographer of America 2021 International Photographic Competition

The Professional Photographers of America (“PPA”) is the largest and longest-standing nonprofit photography association, and a valued and reliable resource for education, professional development, and community for more than 30, 000 professional photographers from more than 50 countries around the world.   Among other events, the PPA hosts an annual International Photographic Competition.  (I’ll be honest — it can be a bit nerve-wracking and agonizing to participate in photography competitions.  Nevertheless, I have found that the benefits gained from participation — critique-driven refinement of photography techniques and attention to detail; honed editing skills; an appreciation for image presentation aesthetics;  and, with any luck, recognition of one’s work — ultimately outweigh any downsides.)

With respect to the PPA International Photographic Competition specifically, photographers may submit a total of four images to be judged by a panel of esteemed professional photography jurors.  If each one of a photographer’s four entries receives a merit award from the jury, the photographer earns a Bronze medal.  During PPA’s 2021 International Photographic Competition, only 58 photographers were named Bronze medalists, and I am incredibly honored to be among them!

I was disappointed not to be able to attend PPA’s Grand Imaging Award ceremony this year to see my images exhibited in person (this was the first time in many years that PPA’s annual conference and exhibition was held in the Washington, D.C. metro area!), but I am very grateful for the recognition, and am excited to be one step closer to my Master of Photography degree. 😊

10-day-old baby girl | newborn studio portraits in Washington, D.C.

10-day-old baby girl – Newborn studio portraits in Washington, D.C.

This gorgeous little girl was 10 days old when she came to my studio for her session, and she was just perfect, as you can see from her images! I just love her sweet little smile in so many of her portraits, and how she looks so content and serene when she is sleeping.  And check out those cheeks and that adorable little hair whorl!  (Did you know that that is the official term for the circular hair swirl?  Always happy to drop some knowledge on you all in addition to sharing photos of gorgeous tiny humans! ;))
I also think that the mint and blush pastel tones that her parents selected for her session really complement her fair complexion (though she rocks the violet color equally well).  Given that this sweetheart was born in the fall, however, we also just had to incorporate some autumn-inspired images to pay homage to her birth season.  And, honestly, who doesn’t love an autumn floral crown?
          Which color is your favorite?

I just love the pose below because of those peeking toes!

Look at that adorable little smile!  Is there anything cuter?

          Doesn’t she look so peaceful?

Which image was your favorite?  Drop me a comment below!

Those first few weeks with a newborn baby are one of the most extraordinary and fleeting seasons of your life. In a matter of just a few weeks, tiny features begin to change, little toes and fingers uncurl, sleepy snuggles give way to longer periods of alertness, and the little one you longed to meet begins growing rapidly before your eyes.
This chapter passes so quickly that many of these precious details fade from memory. Newborn photography helps to preserve those memories, however…long after your baby has outgrown your arms, these images will bring you back to the awe, love, and joy at the beginning of your family’s story. ❤️

For the last decade, I have been almost exclusively photographing newborns and babies. Over the last year, however, I have reintroduced various types of portrait sessions, including children, family, and pet sessions.
Among these “new” portrait offerings is one that has quickly become one of my favorites: fine art children’s portraits. These portraits are thoughtfully crafted images that are designed to capture the beauty and emotion of childhood in a timeless way. These sessions importantly allow your kids the opportunity to dress up and feel special, encouraging confidence and allowing their unique personalities to shine. The ultimate result is heirloom-quality artwork for your home that preserves a season of your child’s life. 🤍

Did you know that I offer *both* posed *and* lifestyle (as well as hybrid) newborn portrait sessions at my Washington D.C. area studio?

Those first days with your new baby are filled with fleeting moments you'll never want to forget, and there are beautiful ways to preserve them through newborn photography. Lifestyle newborn sessions focus on capturing natural moments with your family in a relaxed environment, highlighting authentic connections, cuddles, and the beauty of everyday life with your new baby. Posed newborn sessions are more carefully styled, with your baby gently and safely guided into timeless poses that highlight every precious little detail, creating beautiful heirloom portraits you'll treasure for years to come. As a photographer experienced in both styles, I love offering families the freedom to choose the experience that feels most like them (or even the best of both worlds - a hybrid session!). Whether you envision heartfelt, documentary-style images or beautifully crafted portraits, my goal is to create photographs that not only document how your baby looked, but preserve your memories of this extraordinary season of your life.
